Why Have Kids?

Most people desire to have a family and have some kids. Growing a family can be a very rewarding situation indeed. Yet one must ask if they understand why they are doing this. For instance is it ultra important to pass on their genes or are they doing it through social engineering or family desire. That is to say their parents want to see grandchildren.

Is it an innate characteristic of the species that they are unable to overcome? Worried about missing their biological clock possibilities? In the United States it costs approximately $250,000 to have an offspring and raise them to adulthood. For a family of 5 with 3 kids that is $750,000.00 and well, one must understand that is a real cost which will have to be paid.

When we see poor families with 5 or 6 kids or even 10 in some instances you have to wonder how they will be paying for the 1.5 million dollars to 5 million dollars to raise them. The fact is they cannot and another tragedy to the burden to the taxpayer is that these children may have a problem growing up with their parents working full time to put food on the table. Thus they are more apt to join gangs and cause other issues and crime.

Some may end up in prison and thus we all pay even more and we know it costs $40,000 and up to house someone in prison each year. Where does that money come from? Or rather what could a civilization better use those funds for? For $40,000 per year you could send 10 good kids to college. Think on this in 2006.
