Is it just me or do you also see a complete lack of personal responsibility and integrity these days. Have you stopped and really listen to your friends lately, blaming every one under the sun and everyone for anything going wrong in their lives? Recently in an online think tank this discussion came up and Captain Obvious a think tank member stated: This is a result of and feeds into the lack of personal responsibility and personal integrity. I find this very troubling, but this is merely one component of the problem. I find it even more troubling that we encourage this. For instance the government can do everything for you. No need to eat healthy or exercise you deserve free health care and free pills. Additionally all government agencies from Municipalities to the Federal levels encourage complaints from citizens so they can run out there and look important and PR that they are doing something to save us from a mail box painted the wrong color, an RV or boat parked in a drive way or a company which we feel has over charged us? If you own a small business well you know it is worse than that, as we are suppose to turn in people who have handicap access ramps which are more than 1-inch per 1-foot incline or a potential federal violation of an OSHA right to know binder with a page ripped out; no matter an employee ripped it out to write the phone number of a hot blonde customer who came in the other day and could not find a piece of paper handy? Fine; $2500 thank you very much and this is your tax dollar at work. The employee who called in the complaint? Oh, he is angry because you reprimanded him for a same sex sexual harassment comment he made to another male employee, which you are worried could get you sued. But you do not dare fire the homosexual male, as he has already sued four of his past five employers, who did not tell you because well, they are not allowed to when you inquired about his employment history you see? [Disclaimer; comment is not anti-homophobia so you cannot sue me] We have whistleblowers taking down whole companies and people [individual citizens] losing millions in stock value at a time we are telling citizens to invest in the stock market rather than plastic their way thru life. Of course all this victimhood has a price in society and it is being promoted by government and they are PRing themselves as the answer. But in reality that is impossible, as we cannot regulate morality and we will stop the flows of our civilization if we make laws to protect the dumbest humans amongst us. Your statement of the cult of victimhood culture being a component of the over all problem is therefore seconded. Consider this in 2006. |
