The ABC's Of A Great Life: "K" Is For Kvetching

Yes, even into the best of lives a little rain must fall, and there's no better way to deal with it than to have a support system of friends and colleagues with whom you can share a heartfelt kvetch, and who will understand and support your need to get it out of your system without feeling the burden of "patching things up" for you. Your all around basic kvetch session is cathartic - releasing anger, hurt, frustration and irritation in a safe and loving space, before it builds up to toxic levels.

Of course, the flip side of the coin is that you need to be there for your friends when it's their turn to kvetch. If done right, these little "pity parties" can actually be quite good fun as everyone gets in on the action and each round of kvetching gets sillier and sillier, more and more absurd in scope and magnitude, until at last the entire cohort of colleagues falls mirth-stricken to the ground rolling in laughter at their own spectacle of doom. Through such processes is much harmful energy frittered away into harmless motes of piffle.

So what's your kvetch? Nasty boss, irate drivers, slow-moving checkout lines at the grocery store? Let it out - in a moderated and supportive environment, of course. And don't confuse kvetching with brooding or mean-spiritedness. The idea is to release the energy, not build it up. If you find yourself getting moody or morose, you're going the wrong way. Turn around and head for the light - and may the kvetch be with you.
