1/4/06 Basketball Picks: Miami Heat to Face Stiff Competition From the Hornets
Best: 76ers @ Suns: Both teams clearly need to improve their defense if they hope to have longevity in the postseason. Philadelphia and Phoenix are scoring and allow over 100 each night. Can Chris Webber take advantage of an Amare Stouemire-less Suns team? Predicted Score: Philadelphia wins 112-110 in a game that should easily sail over the total.
Runner-up: Heat @ Hornets: The Hornets have done a great job protecting their home court to this point and have won home games against all the elite Western teams. Now they face one of the elite Eastern teams in Miami. P.J. Brown is a very good player, but has no chance of standing up to Shaquille O'Neal. Still, I see enough Hornets players stepping up in this affair to make it interesting. Predicted Score: New Orleans/Oklahoma City wins in a shocker 103-100. Take the Hornets ATS at home.
Blowout: Blazers @ Spurs: Zach Randolph may be a future all-star but can't stand on his own against Tim Duncan. Just at all positions the Spurs have an advantage. Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili are all-stars as well. Bruce Bowen will stop Juan Dixon from hitting 3's. And even Rasho Nesterovic can hold his own against Theo Ratliff. Predicted Score: San Antonio wins in an absolute route 101-79
